« Buggered!  :: November 30th, 2003 Next Page »

I’ve just finished work and had dinner. I worked last night until 12:50am, then was back at work this morning for another 8 hour shift at 11:30am. When you subtract time for dinner and breakfast, showering, and general getting ready for work activities, that doesn’t leave you much time for sleep :sad:

So that’s over now right? Wrong. after finishing at 7:30pm this evening I am back at work at 7:30am tomorrow morning to play the game all over again. Yay!

**Sarcasm**

On the plus side I earned over $200 today for ‘Team Doyle’, so that’s a bonus. Gotta love Sunday rates!

For those of you who haven’t seen already, Rob’s site, Rraven’s Piece, has moved to a new server. He’s upgraded to Movabletype as well, so check out his improvements here!

P.S. Sorry for those of you who’ve visited my site yesterday and didn’t find it. My host was installing a script for me and they didn’t notify me that it would bring my site down. Hmm……

 « Great Hosting Deal!  :: November 29th, 2003 Next Page »

Hey all, seeing as though I am rather unhappy with the service and features of my current host, I have been on the search for a way of acquiring some extra storage space to put some of the content here on a different server. I found this hosting site that does normal hosting, but also offers free hosting. It’s free hosting offers more then I am currently paying for on my current server. Here’s what you get:

yourname.ashst.com
120MB server space
Perl 5.8.1
Php 4.3.4
CPanel 8.5.4
100 x Pop3 email accounts
5 x ftp accounts
1 x Mailing list
10 x mySQL Databases
10 x Postgresql Databases
10 x subdomains

Only thing is they only allow sign-ups for an hour starting at 8pm GMT on fridays. Which means for us aussies having to get up at 6am to register. You also have to have a good reason and purpose for your site, so have a think before signing up. Once you’ve gotten past this you have a free hosting site with all of the above, and you don’t have to pay a cent for it! I pay $6.95 per month for my hosting, and I get less then 40% of what these guys offer. So if you’re interested in starting your own site, check these guys out, and set your alarm for 5:55am next Saturday morning AEST (-1 hr for Daylight savings states).

:five:

1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not?
Yes and no. I like shopping on my own time when things aren’t too busy. I don’t like being around lots of people at once or being crowded if I can help it. I am more likely to get annoyed and start randomly abusing people. I don’t like spending money on things I don’t need. It makes me feel like a victim of post modern society………something I like to avoid altogether wherever possible.

2. What was the last thing you purchased?
Cashews. They were on special, 1kg for $10. I don’t understand why they are usually so expensive, but I very rarely buy them except in rare circumstance like this.

3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?
Online, it saves the hassle of lining up and waiting for others to get their act together.

4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it?
Not until I was about 5. At first I think I got about a dollar or two, and this went up incrementally as I got older and demonstrated to my parents that I was responsible with my money.

5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?
Nothing……regret is a waste of time.

Melly’s blog is up and running, go to psychokitten.esinner.com. Be one of the first to comment on her new creative expression. I’ll be putting a banner up over the next week or so, that way you can follow through from here, and also link her yourself from your own sites.

Make sure you keep reading and visiting! Why, because my wife rocks!

Melly is thinking of having her own weblog so that she too can write and express herself online. We would be interested in finding out what you all think about this little idea. Leave your comments, and let us know! :smile:

 « School Friends  :: November 26th, 2003 Next Page »

Ok, so I was on Schoolfriends.com.au the other day and I saw that a few people had signed up that I knew from my old school in Sydney. I was so wrapped, it was great being given the chance to get in touch with these people again. I’ve sent out some emails to about 4 or 5 people, and I can’t wait to hear back from them.

I messaged this one guy called Jonathan who was in highschool when I was there and he messaged me back the next day (yesterday) saying that he remembers me and we’ve started emailing. I can’t wait to hear back from the others I’ve messaged too, it’s so exciting!

Do you know anyone from school that you’ve lost contact with who you’d like to get back in touch with? Visit Schoolfriends! :grin:

 « It’s arrived!  :: November 25th, 2003 Next Page »

I ordered the new NickelBack album “The Long Road” from dstore.com.au on the weekend. I had a $10 voucher from my netguide magazine and I hadn’t gotten a CD in ages. It arrived today and it’s awesome! I love NickelBack, I guess because they write lyrics that can really tap into people’s pain. I like being able to relate to music, it makes me feel less lonely in a particular situation knowing that there are people out there that are going through similar things.

The album itself is more rocky and upbeat then that last album, and I think it’s a good step for them. There’s this one song on there that I really like, it’s called “Believe It Or Not”. It’s a song about faith, and really speaks to the cry of my heart to know God and have faith in Him, but also how hard that faith is to find amidst the dispair and anguish of life.

Most people these days don’t really seem to pay a great deal of attention to lyrics, but I think they are the real jewels of any song. A good tune is great, but if the meaning is void I find it hard liking the song at all. A lot of pop music is like this, hence why I don’t like pop on the whole. To many meaningless songs mass marketed to make a quick buck. Anyways, it’s probably a good thing. Meaningful songs would be lost on the majority of the world’s citizens, working where I do you soon discover that the collective intelligence of most of the population could most likely be conquered by a pigeon.

 « So much to do…  :: November 23rd, 2003 Next Page »

…so little time.

Melly and I have been busy bees today. After working this morning I came home to do some work in the yard. I pulled out all the weeds in the garden, and mowed the lawn. This took me the greater part of about 4 hours to do, and I was completely buggered afterwards. I feel a little better now though, I’ve since showered and had some dinner. Melly cooked us some lovely steak and veggies, and even made me some sweet potato wedges (I love sweet potato! Thanks sweety :smile: ).

During my afternoon’s activities Melly’s been busy too, doing the washing, cleaning up around the house and stuff. She’s been very productive, actually we both have. The house looks great, and the yard looks very neat. It’s all in good time too, we have a house inspection tomorrow, and we wanted everything to be in order.

I have tomorrow off, which is absolutely grand! I think I’m gonna sleep in, then kick back most of the day, maybe play some ‘puter games or work on my website. Mum and Dad are coming up from the coast tomorrow arvo, which is gonna be good, cuz I haven’t seen them in a month or two.

Worked most of this evening searching the web for some good chat scripts for my site. I could easily put up a java based chat room, but java pi$$es me off. Will keep you posted with new developments.

 « A long night ahead…  :: November 20th, 2003 Next Page »

Last night I did my first overnight shift in a few months. I forgot how quite it gets, but also how stupid customers can be on these shifts.

I had this one guy ring up at around 2am and the call went like this, to the word:

Josh: “*Insert telco name here ** this is Josh, which country please?”

Customer: “Oh hi, I’m looing for the time in Pennsylvania…”

Josh: “Just a second while I look that up for you Sir…………….the time in Pennsylvania USA is five minutes past nine in the morning…”

Customer: “Sorry?…”

Josh: “The time in Pennsylvania is five minutes past nine in the morning Sir…”

Customer: “What does that mean?”

Josh: “It means the time in Pennsylvania is five minutes past nine in the morning, what do you mean “what do you mean?”, it’s self explanatory…”

Customer: “Oh……..so when was it 9am?”

Josh: “Five minutes ago Sir **Josh sighs to himself**”

Customer: “oh……..”

Customer hangs up…..

Seriously, how daft can people get?

I just got called in for a shift again tonight. I haven’t had a great deal of sleep, only about 4 or five hours worth, so it’s gonna be tiring, yet it’s good cuz it means I actually get a decent amount of hours for the week. Here’s hoping that I get paid better then I did for this last fornight…

First thing, or maybe second thing tomorrow I’m going up to Kmart and getting a supersoaker, then I’m gonna camp outside and wait for the little sh*t head to come even close to the fence, then it’s gonna get it! I’m sick and tired of filling in it’s damn holes, and it pi$$ing Gypsie off! I’ve lost so much sleep because of that little hell spawn, argh!!!!

 « Josh Recommends…  :: November 18th, 2003 Next Page »

Ok, so I’ve added a new category for my blog, it’s called “Josh Recommends…” and is basically going to be a heap of stuff I like that I think is worth recommending. Seeing we live in a consumer driven society, I thought this kind of category would work well with the general public. Personally I abhor consumerism, people in general are stupid, and buy stuff they don’t need. Society on the whole would be better off taking a few tips from Ghandi, but anyways, enough of that, wouldn’t want to take you out of your western comfort zones…

Tonight on “Josh Recommends…” I thought we’d start out nice and easy with a recipe. We are taking a look at what I like to call “Cheeseburger Toast”. This is a personal creation of mine that I developed in early 2002. The basic ingredients are bread, tomato sauce (ketchup), mild mustard, and cheese singles (the ones wrapped in plastic).

First step is to take the desired amount of bread and chuck it in the toaster. After the toast is done apply generous amounts of tomato sauce and mustard to the toast and spead together with a butter knife. After sauces have been applied add a cheese single on top of the sauces and place in the microwave for approximately 15 seconds per slice of toast. Depending on your microwave’s power you may need to adjust cooking time to suit your needs. In any case, keep an eye on the cheese and when it starts to bubble remove the toast from the microwave. This can also be done under a griller if you don’t have a microwave. Tada, you have Cheeseburger Toast! Cheeseburger Toast is great for a light snack, or if you’re having McDonalds cravings but are too poor to by takeaway food.

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of “Josh Recommends…”
